Vicenza was the home of architect Andrea di Pietro della Gondola (“Palladio”) (1508-80), who designed important buildings in Venice.
In Vicenza, one can view his last project, the Teatro Olimpico, meant to recall the design of ancient Greek theatres. One can tour Vicenza simply by following all the buildings designed by Palladio.
A few miles outside town, visit beautiful sixteenth-century villas, including the Rotunda, a 1550 Palladio design. Drive to the nearby Monte Berico, a hill from which you can view the entire town, and visit the Baroque church there.
